This shot from the feature film Balko Teneriffa shows a small rowing boat exploding. I was responsible for the entire shot, handling all aspects in postproduction including FX and compositing. On the FX side, I created a pyro explosion, debris, sparks, and rigid body simulation of the boat, which I modeled and fractured procedurally. In compositing, I integrated all FX layers into the live-action plate, retouched the background, and placed particular focus on relighting the plate to match the explosion’s illumination and shadow casting to ground the explosion in the environment. Being in charge of the whole execution allowed me full control over the final image.
